My MIL recently told us at dinner that when people ask her whether or not we are divorced yet, she says that she doesn't know. (We have been happily together for over 20 years.) My husband sees her every week and we visit together several times a year in spite of the chunk it takes out of me to put up with her passive-aggressive abuse. It is usually a rude aside, like suggesting I don't make enough money or I don't come from a good family. But how she would not know whether we are still married and why she would be discussing this with other people and why she would feel the need to tell us... I guess I am supposed to feel sorry for her that she finds the situation awkward that her son married someone he loves and is still happy when I am not from the right culture...Yes, how awkward for her that her child is happily married.
