DH tells me that his parents "have always been very tit for tat" about things. That would have been OK. What wasn't OK was the "tit for shat". After years of going above and beyond for the inlaws only to never have any reciprocy or flexibility on their part, I'm done. Kindness was always met with criticism and the demand for more. The funny thing is that while it wasn't appreciated at all at the time, now MIL is crying to DH that she "wants it to go back to the way it was!". LOL! Of course she does! The problem is that it is a lot less stressful on my kids and I and even DH to not do shit AND avoid the shat!
