HJ, the winter is the hardest time for a lot of people to lose weight because we're cooped up in the house for most of the day. So a double scoop of congrats to you for what you've achieved!!! Some people go to the gym. I don't. I like to walk 4 miles a day in an hour but haven't been doing it lately because life keeps getting in the way. And it's just been too darn cold. I won't go walking if it's below 40 degrees, and we've had a lot of those days this winter. And the only time I can really exercise is when dd isn't here, which is during the school day, but that doesn't leave me much time at all. As a mom yourself, you know that there is always way much more to do than time allows. sigh.

Thank you Mamarama.

We live in Ohio. The winters here are rough compared to Ky!

I don't go the gym or even exercise in the winter either. I can't even say it is because of a job schedule (haven't been able to find one yet) or a young child. My children are adults exept for the 16 year old but he is special needs.

I am not motivated to exercise indoors. Gyms cost money. I have no desire to be around other people exercising and sweating indoors either.

I like taking walks for toning and exercise like you do.

Dh's health decline (heart and diabetes) in December scared me. The day he and I left the hospital, I weighed myself. The numbers on scale scared me! I weighed in at 162. I am only 5'6 so was "under tall" for my weight based on bmi chart!

It has been a big adjustment in cutting off eating after six in the evening, cutting back practically eliminating sugar, continued the migraine prevention eating that works from for me (no milk, or cheese, or meat no animal products )

I stopped using salt on foods, no more desserts, stopped eating all white carbs (whole grain only) made food portions smaller (saucer sized plates and bowls, etc. I followed all tips that Dh is supposed to be following to support him (and for me to prevent needing medical care except structured exercise.)

I just don't have desire or motivation to exercise indoors. I don't even like that word! I like "movement."

The dietician mades some recommendations for him and I followed them to the letter except for exercise. I just try to move more and sit down or lay down less. When at a store, I walk the entire store even if I only need a few items. Also, I take steps verses elevaters.

My motivation was and is my very strongly disliking medical intervention. I am not even comfortable going to doctors offices and hospitals. I had a few panic attacks when staying in the hospital with Dh.

Dh was doing great on the special diet and new restrictions. Then, he became burnt out and gained back the ten pounds that he had lost due to stress eating. His a something blood work came back at 7 recently which is excellent though. He needs to lose ten pounds.

Spring will be a welcome change!

I look forward to toning up on walks outside! If only toning came with weight loss..... Sigh!

My goal is eight more for summer and spring clothes to fit "right."

If I dared to ever wear a bathing suit again, it would mean additional weight loss and much more "movement." I am good with just not ever wearing a bathing suit again!

Wishing everyone good health and happiness!

Has anyone trIed skin firming lotions?

Do they work?

I don't blame you, especially after your run-in with that obese doctor that dared to body shame you. smh.

I used to put my treadmill in front of the tv and catch up on Beverly Hills 90210 (lol I know, but it's one of my guilty pleasures that's campy and takes me back to my teen years) but those days are gone. It's time to dust it off. This thread has motivated me! Let's see how long this lasts...

I haven't been on for a while, so am just catching up.

DH had a bad fall in December just before our move to the South and broke his hip. I had to fly back and stay in our basically empty house for 1 month while he was in the hospital and then rehab recouperating. I had one plate, one mug, one fork, one spoon and a saucepan. No furniture except a kitchen chair and a twin bed. We left the wall mounted TVs for the buyer of our house, so at least I could watch TV at night. During the day I was at the hospital or the rehab nursing home (oye) visiting DH. It was very stressful. I managed to drop 25 lbs. My goal was 10 before. 10 was really all I needed to lose.

Since we've gotten settled I've managed to gain back about 10, which is okay because none of my pants fit at all and looked really bad. I'm hoping to keep the bonus 5 off at this point, but DH is driving me up the wall (he HATES it in the South and everybody that calls gets to hear his LONG rambling complaints about the weather, his hip, the cost of things, the traffic, the dogs, the bugs, the soils. You name, he's complaining.) To compensate, I'm drinking WAY too much Pinot Grigio each day to escape, and that is packing the pounds around my waist very quickly.

Oh my, you have had quite the adventure. I know none of us saw your Dh breaking his hip and hating it there as something that you would be dealing with in your life! I can see how you lost so much weight from all of it!

Survival is key! It sounds like you are coping and rolling with the punches of life as well as you can! We are all only human!

Thank you for the update. I hope that your Dh heals quickly and life calms down. I will keep you and Dh in my thoughts and prayers.

---------

Our update....

I weigh one pound less than the 145 ibs that I was stuck at for a while.

Maybe it will help to type this out. I am upset and not feeling comfortable with our situation. It is hard to see it objectively being in the situation,

The debt situation has turned on its head and I am scared. The good news is that good Sil is helping us out and we are negotiating 1/3 on debts. She is helping us pay the 1/3. The scary part is that the bad lawyer lied to us about us qualifying for chapter 7 which after paying his fee and stopping payment on debts, we learn the truth.

We need to fire the bankruptsy lawyer in order to nogotiate with some of the creditors (credit cards) and hospital. I worry about losing a protection from stuff. Yet, even with a attorney we are getting spam from lawyers in the area saying that they will represent us and lawsuits have been filed.

Good Sil has had to sue someone to collect a debt and they paid 1/3. She says it will be okay and doesn't seem worried. She will buy our house and we would live in it if needed to protect us even and we can pay her back in 10 years. She promises to help with food if needed and says it will okay.

I know that you have to stop paying on debts in order to have them negotiate with you. Yet, the matter has gone to collections and even having the bad lawyer who isn't willing to negotiate on our behalf feels like security.

Chapter 13 is not a good option compared to paying 1/3. Sil and Dh negotiated on debt down already on one of them but they would only go to 60 percent of the debt. Dh took the deal and Sil provided the difference in money we didn't have to pay them.

He plans on firing the attorney today I believe and will keep calling to negotiate our debts.

Someone please tell me that these things work out but feel uncertain and scary in the moment. If you are religious, please pray for us. If not, please think positive thoughts. Thanks. Off to cry and get ready for work. It is going to be a glasses day verses contact day to hide the crying evidence.

Again, thanks for listening/ reading. It helped to type this out (I needed to cry and haven't been able to do so.)

I'm so sorry to catch up and read all of this is happening to you. I don't have any advice to offer. Whatever help your SIL is offering, accept it and worry about repayment later. If she has the means and is offering, please accept it. Bless her for doing that. I will pray for your family.

I was in good shape before my second child was born. I gained 30 lbs while pregnant with #2 and never got rid of the final 10 lbs before I got pregnant again with #3. I gained another 30 lbs with my third child. A year and a half postpartum, I was within 15 lbs of my goal weight. I don’t know exactly what happened at the beginning of 2018, but I gained another 15 lbs (total of 30 lbs over goal weight). I have never (apart from pregnancy) weighed that much in my life. None of my clothes fit, I felt awful about myself, I was doing a lot of comfort eating. I was extremely sedentary.

I feel like I’ve been in survival mode the past 2.5 years. Dealing with EH (estranged husband) and the ILs, just overwhelmed in general with life as a single mom to three young children, etc. I’ve struggled with depression too. Just haven’t had the time or energy to take care of myself.

Then in fall 2018, I began walking a few days a week. And then running maybe three times a month. I’ve gradually increasing my activity each week. Currently, I’m running 5 miles twice a week and walking 2 miles on most other days. The weight is finally coming off and I’m feeling much better about myself. I’m a little bit more than 15 lbs above my goal weight right now.

Congratulations Mara!

I have ten pounds to go. Ten pounds down.

Update-

Now Five pounds to go

Something "happened" that stressed me out and I lost five pounds fast

Goal is to weigh goal weight by end of this month. Why can't toning up come with weight loss!

Congrats!!!

I gained back all the weight I lost and more, and was at my highest weight ever after Covid lockdown ended. Then I had a scare at my last doctors appointment where my bloodwork came back at the lowest cut off for prediabetes. The doctor wasn't worried because it was barely in range, but I don't want to deal with diabetes on top of all my other health concerns. So I started drastically cutting carbs and after 2 months I was down 12 lbs. My weight loss has stagnated since then, but at least now I'm back down to my old top weight when I started trying to lose it the first time. That means I still have 20 lbs to go, but at least my blood sugar is doing better!
