Re: Site Maintenance

Unfortunately, the problems with the site have become unbearable and I'm going to perform the site maintenance this weekend, starting tonight. I apologize for the late notice and hope everyone understands that this is only being done in an effort to provide a better user experience for you all.

Site Maintenance

You've probably noticed this site having connection issues over the last month or so. In an effort to fix the problem, I will be doing a major site maintenance if a few weeks. During the site maintenance, the forums and "Submit Story" page will be offline and unavailable. This site's stats show that...

Re: Feedback on email from realitor

I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest you pick up a copy of Freakonomics and read Chapter 2: "How is the Ku Klux Klan Like a Group of Real-Estate Agents." It's a much more serious topic than it seems by the title. There's much more in the chapter than what I'm going to discuss here, but a lot of it cente...

Re: How do you handle FB pictures of your kids?

There's an important part that precedes that section: "You own all of the content and information you post on Facebook." That sentence prevents Facebook from selling anything without your explicit permission and you would have legal recourse based solely on that sentence. Which is why you don't see ...

Re: How do you handle FB pictures of your kids?

That's tricky, because once you post photos on facebook, they become property of facebook, and you no longer have any say over what happens to them. They can be sold to anyone without your knowledge or consent. That's part of how facebook made billions of dollars, by selling this kind of property t...

"I'm sorry [name], but while I appreciate your enthusiasm about the topic, it's just not a topic I'm comfortable discussing in the workplace. I appreciate you respecting that." Most people, particularly when treated respectfully, will listen and no longer bring up the topic. If you say something lik...

Re: Relations That Always Need Help

Do any of you have a similar situation with a parent or a sibling? Absolutely, I do. It's one of my brothers. He's constantly moving from job to job and from state to state. We're never 100% sure where he's living at the moment, nor where he's working. He's on his third marriage and I have literall...

Not based on what you wrote. It's *possible* he may see some of the stuff as an "attack" on something he views as a positive, but it doesn't give him the right to ignore your feelings.

Re: Putting my relationship on hold

I have a very close friend who has this idea about "The Era of Good." During "The Era of Good" a couple can do no wrong. Everything is happy and wonderful and fantastic and the significant other only has "idiosyncrasies" and "cute personality traits" and things along those lines. And then "The Era o...

Make sure you keep reaching out to people who can/will support you when you need them. There may be times when you feel alone, but just like everybody on this message board, there's someone who is willing to listen and help.

Welcome Back!

As you may have noticed, the company that hosts this website experienced a MAJOR server crash over the weekend. The crash wiped out this website and several others that I own for about 3-4 days. The restoration of the site was based on a backup from Oct 5. Unfortunately, since the next backup was sc...
